An interactive demonstration of open source software to search remotely sensed imagery for suitable field sites to reduce time and expense in the field.
This talk will be an interactive, practical demonstration of the use of open source software in the Geographical Sciences to search remotely sensed imagery for suitable field sites in extreme environments in order to reduce time and expense in the field. This talk will draw on a specific example of searching for salt marsh “microsites” in western Greenland using a Python algorithm developed by Leanne. She will show the algorithm assisted with site selection during her fieldwork in summer 2018.
